Global Culture Program at Applied Materials
“Engagement derived from multiple acquisitions worth over $2B resulting in horizontal integration, new technologies, new products and had global impact in multiple regions”
GPMIP managed “Global Culture Program” at Applied Materials, supporting 12 task teams in leading initiatives that will shift organization from being an international company into a global company
Engagement derived from multiple acquisitions worth over $2B resulting in horizontal integration, new technologies, and new products and had global impact in multiple regions
Challenges included lack of understanding of cultural differences by managers worldwide, lack of experience managing virtually, and lack of involvement and accountability of program participants
US seen as “region centric” organization with regulatory differences and challenges in labour areas
We created global “language,” culture, and organization resulting in improvement of management skills and routines
Result was organizational change, and we led Applied Materials to become global organization rather than international organization
